Homemade lemonade

How good it is sometimes to drink a refreshing lemonade. You just need to buy a bottle, put in the refrigerator for a few hours, take off the nut and… come back! We'll make our own better!

The advantages of homemade lemonade do not even need to be mentioned. It is healthier, does not contain dyes or other enhancers, instead, it is loaded with vitamin C of natural origin. And not much work on it, I think it's worth a try.

Let's be straightforward: my recipe is only a general guideline. I like, when the lemonade contains a lot of lemon juice and little sugar, i also like mint. Marta, on the other hand, does not like sour drinks and she would choose the proportions differently.

Martha: For the sake of accuracy, I will add, that I would give the juice of only two lemons for the same amount of water and sugar.

Everything can be modified here and adjusted to your needs, so feel free to experiment. Now to the point.

Ingredients for 1 liter:

  • lemons – 0,5kg
  • sugar – 10 tablespoons
  • carbonated mineral water

We start by squeezing the lemon juice. Pour the juice into a liter jug and add sugar to it. We've been mixing for so long, until the sugar dissolves (we can use a milk frother). Then top it up with chilled mineral water. If we have fresh mint, we can throw in a few leaves.

The above proportions will give us a strong lemon, sour drink, slightly biting on the tongue (high concentration of citric acid in combination with bubbles of sparkling water). This may not suit everyone and I suggest adjusting the proportions individually. Lemons can also be replaced with limes, or both can be combined. You don't even have to worry about drastic changes. Just one lemon per liter will give a noticeable taste, and perhaps it will be indicated in situations, when we serve lemonade to guests – the clearer the drink will look better, and at the same time it will not be too sour.

Caution, Danger, more attention! While instead of white sugar you can freely use e.g.. agave syrup, or cane sugar, let's remember, that another alternative, more specifically honey, in addition to a noticeable change in taste, will make too, that the lemonade will be more cloudy. A stewii, or other sweeteners I do not recommend at all. Not enough, that they have characteristics, aftertaste not entirely pleasant, it's still hard to dissolve them well. Floating white dense stevia farfoches look unappetizing.

I just don't recommend overdoing it with sugar. You know: the more lemons, the more sugar you should use, to neutralize the sour taste. If someone does not like too acidic drinks, I would advise you to reduce the number of lemons, but under no circumstances add more sugar. 10 spoons is approx 120 grams of sugar, which gives us a really high-calorie drink (about 50kcal per 100ml), equal to the one from the store. And yet it is about refreshment, and not about getting stuffed with calories and getting caries.
