China Town is a Chinese restaurant, which is located in Olsztyn at ul. Dąbrowszczaków 17. There are two Buddha statues on the sides of the front door, which currently, probably due to the increasingly colder days, have been moved to the center of the premises. The interior is spacious, among the walls with warm shades we can find furniture made of dark wood. The walls on the walls attract attention, ceiling and dish washers decorations inspired by Far Eastern art.
The menu includes beef dishes, pork, poultry (including duck) and fish, seafood and soups.
I chose crab chips as an appetizer, which are served hot and are quite greasy. Very crunchy with a very delicate crab flavor.
Dominik: And my type are usually spring rolls or soup. On my last visit, I decided to go all out and order both.
The spring rolls were served, as usual, with a little white cabbage salad and a delicate sauce. They are tiny and wonderfully crunchy, the filling is vegetables.
I usually consider two soups – Chinese stew and curry. The goulash soup is so hot, that he squeezes tears, so recently i bet on the latter. Curry soup, on the other hand, is described as spicy, but my tongue is so insensitive to capsaicin, that I didn't sense it. But the taste of spices and pieces of meat, of course.
And, highly monothematic, I always order the same dish… I like it so much, that I can never pull myself together, to order something else. This deliciousness is breaded chicken in sweet and sour sauce. The fillet, cut into thin strips, is served on vegetables soaked in sauce, among which we can find paprika, carrot, fresh cucumber, Chinese cabbage, onions, bamboo shoots and mun mushrooms. I suggest putting the fillet on the target plate as soon as possible, because if he stays on the sauce for too long, the batter is soaked with it and loses its crunchiness.
Dominik: I usually choose chicken, pork or beef po se shuańsku, Recently, however, the duck was chosen Canton. She was simply delicious, crunchy and aromatic. Mushroom sauce, paprika and bamboo shoots go well with the meat. Similar to curry soup, I did not notice any special spice in the dish, but I am convinced, that those who are more sensitive to the sharp taste would say otherwise.
For two people we got a bowl of rice, sticky, so that it can be easily eaten with chopsticks. Admittedly, ordinary cutlery is usually served in the restaurant, but chopsticks are available upon special request.
We always order white cabbage as a salad. It is fresh cabbage, but deliciously seasoned sweet with a delicate sour aftertaste, so delicious, that we always ask for her alone, without dressing (which consists of corn and mayonnaise sauce).
After lunch, it's time for dessert, on which, tell the truth, we were tempted at this restaurant for the first time, for the purposes of this article. I decided to order fried ice cream. It was a large ball of cream ice cream with a small amount of raisins, closed in a sponge cake and deep-fried. Honey was left over on top of it, which her warmth caramelized delicately. I find it with some surprise, that I liked the dessert very much, so I will probably order it again.
Dominik: And I opted for the pineapple in batter, mainly because, that my ideal dessert is fruit, and it is best if they are sour. But the name of the dish by name, and reality is reality: the dessert turned out to be something like chicken nuggets, but with pineapple instead of meat. The cake was little "dessert", it was also very greasy, probably from deep frying. Compared to a relatively light dinner (though a little too abundant), such a heavy dessert was in my opinion quite a dissonance and did not give me any special pleasure. Perhaps in some province of China such desserts are typical, but my European palate is unlikely to be able to enjoy them.
The advantage of the restaurant is really low prices with large portions of food, the decor of the premises provides for this, that the place seems really cozy, especially if we manage to occupy a table covered with a screen. The spaciousness of the place and a diverse menu make it, that this restaurant is perfect both for family dinners (also with young children), as well as for a date or an intimate business meeting. It has been our favorite Chinese restaurant for many years, therefore, we heartily recommend it to you.
