Pyra Bar

Today it will be about potatoes again. We decided to visit the Pyra Bar restaurant located in the Old Town of Gdańsk, which you can find at Garbary 6/7, and you can take a look at the website.

As the name suggests, the first such restaurant was established in Poznań, after some time a Gdańsk "branch" was opened; which is also clear from the name, this pub specializes in serving dishes, where everything revolves around potatoes. We can taste potato casseroles there, pancakes or baked potatoes; some of the dishes are labeled as vegetarian.

The interior design evokes some associations with the times of the People's Republic of Poland, under the bar counter, we can see a large neon sign with the name of the restaurant, on the walls are posters stylized for years 50. with funny inscriptions: „Pyranoja”, "List of opyratorki", "Girls from Pyrlandia", "The Pyroman Diaries", or "Departure about pyranku" (The names of the dishes on the menu are equally interesting). Even the font used in the restaurant is associated with communism. Only the flowers on the tables, not these (tulips) and some non-communist music (Rod Stewart, and then Brodek). Although perhaps the excess of the atmosphere of the Polish People's Republic would look too much like a milk bar from Miś with checkered oilcloth and a spoon on a chain.

To place an order, you have to move your backside to the counter, but then the waitress brings us the dishes we ordered. After you have consumed your lunch, it is a good idea to put the dishes down until the return window.

We started our dinner with drinks, in my case it was, and how, compote – multi-fruit compote with notes of ginger that stand out clearly to the fore; I personally liked it on average, because I don't like this spice, but its followers will surely be usy-tasy. It is served in fairly modest glasses with a volume 200 ml.

Dominik ordered freshly squeezed orange and pear juice – what to write a lot, pychaaa! You will have to invest in juicing equipment someday and start doing the same.

The main course was potato gratin. They are served in brown ceramic bowls, in small or large versions amounting to respectively 300 or 500g, with the large version… well, is really big, in the case of women, even with hunger for wolves, it may turn out to be too high. All casseroles contain a large dose of potato slices, and the whole dish is tightly covered with a layer of mozzarella. The cups keep warm for a long time, so be careful, so as not to burn my tongue.

I chose "PyraMiDę Smaku", which, apart from potatoes and cheese, contained chicken and carrots with peas, the whole thing was flooded with béchamel, which gave the dish a very gentle and harmonious overtone. There were so many vegetables, that additional pig iron turned out to be unnecessary, unfortunately the chicken was only a few pieces – fact, that potatoes were to play the first fiddle here, but for me this amount of meat disturbed the proportions of the dish a little.

Dominik: I ordered a dish with a hilarious name "Zucchini Chicken", mainly because of this, that we rarely have zucchini on our menu, and sometimes I have a terrible desire for it. In a bowl, under a toasted layer of mozzarella, there is a mix of potato slices, chicken pieces, the aforementioned zucchini and peppers, everything was combined with a tomato-cream sauce. According to the menu, the sauce was supposed to be spicy, but it was fake, because even Martha stated, that he is gentle. However, it was quite tasty.

As a vegetable side dish, I indulged in a Greek salad. The vegetables and feta cheese were cut into good-looking pieces, and the whole is sprinkled profusely with basil. Salt and pepper were not used at all, probably from the assumption, that anyone can use the spices on the table. Olive oil was used as much as possible, but I found no trace of the sauce vinaigrette, which I personally consider to be an incredible plus. Unfortunately, There was also no lemon.

At the end, we will mention one more for the curious, that the restaurant prepares a different daily: soup, salad and dessert. That day, which we ate there, it was broccoli soup and spring salad, for dessert, a chocolate cake was served.

summarizing, we recommend Pyra Bar to all lovers of interesting variations on the potato. The served dishes differ from those from the Pod Rybą Bar, and the atmosphere of the Polish People's Republic with a pinch of salt does, that it is not boring to wait for food during peak hours.
