Yogurt with honey and dried fruits

We always double and triple when visiting guests, to prepare something really tasty, unusual, surprising. We have already mentioned yoghurt with honey and dried fruits – time to write something about it.

The dessert itself probably comes from Greece, although it is served all over southern Europe. It is tasty, light and healthy, because no sugar is added to it. That does not mean, of course, that there is no sugar in it at all – on the contrary; let's remember, that honey is mostly carbohydrate: fructose, glucose and maltose (therefore, the dessert is not suitable for diabetics – honey has a high glycemic index).

Ingredients for two servings:

  • 300-400g of Greek yoghurt (two small cups or one large)
  • delicacies: Italian nuts, raisins, almonds…
  • honey

Let's start with a few words about the ingredients. Original recipe, as far as I know, contains walnuts. Saw the dessert also served with a mix of nuts and raisins, as well as a variant with pine nuts. In fact, most dried fruits will fit perfectly and you can safely choose these, which you like the most. Hazelnuts, Brazilian, cashews or macadamia nuts will do just as well as the walnuts I have given, raisins and almonds.

Honey, on the other hand, must be clear; Cream honey is absolutely not suitable. Honey should not be sugary either: must pour. The taste, of course, will not deteriorate with other types of honey, but the aesthetic value will definitely suffer.

Finally, yogurt. I recommend Greek yoghurt because of its consistency, and not the origin of the dessert. You can of course use any natural yoghurt, but the one commonly available in every store may not be dense enough.

Preparation of dessert is very simple. Two solid portions should come out of a large cup of yogurt. We start by putting the yoghurt into cups or bowls. We can decorate the dishes with streams of honey in advance, which will give an interesting visual effect. Put your favorite dried fruit on top, and pour honey over the whole. You shouldn't overdo it: dessert should be sweet and sour.

Serve the dessert immediately after preparation. It's better to let go of storing it for later, if we are not excited by the sight of stratified yogurt.
